We've been doing alot of exercises and drawings in the human figure. Today, we were self-portraits. Mine turned out not too bad. I drew mine on black paper with white and blue oil pastels, and me myself in 3/4. I suck at 3/4, so I dearly need the practice. The result was not too bad, I'm quite satisfied with it myself.
Anyway, on to the about the painting I sold. There was a day that we were doing separated self-development projects. Since I'm such a meticulous perfectionist and always draw things realisticly, I decided to an abstract painting to head myself a different direction. The point about the painting is not to plan. So, I just blank my mind and randomly threw paint all over a big thick sheet of paper pinned on a wall. In the end, it became it relatively colourful painting. I thought it sucked at first, but people came in and was impressed with it. Even the the tutors' kids that were wondering about the campus saw it and liked it. That made me to look at it in a different light.
Then, on the next Monday, a fellow classmate came up to me and offered me NZ$100 to buy my painting. Of course, I thought he was joking at first, but it turned out he was indeed serious. And yesterday, he came in with $110 in hand. The $10 was added later because I had to buy two big brushes for the painting. That was the only cost for it, the rest were school provided.
So that was the story of how I sold my first painting. Will upload a photo of it in scraps or maybe as a deviation later
